From the beginning of life with information-containing polymers until the present days of health care, charged macromolecules are ubiquitous with a broad range of structural and functional properties. Aqueous solutions of charged macromolecules constitute a strange state of matter with intriguing properties, owing to strong correlations among all entities in the system. Examples of such properties include attraction between macromolecules bearing the same sign of electric charge, diffusion coefficient of gigantic macromolecules being comparable to that of a small metallic ion, etc. Fundamental concepts behind these phenomena will be addressed in the lecture.
